Back-to-School Backpack Program
The Department of Social Services provides St. Anne’s the names of 125-175 children who have qualified for assistance for school supplies. This ministry ensures that all children at this school begin the new school year equipped to learn and thrive. During the month of July, a large bulletin board is set up in the Narthex, before and after each Sunday service, with the names of these needy students (grades K through 5) and a list of the supplies they will need for the upcoming school year (including a backpack). Parishioners take one or more of these name tags and purchase the needed supplies and backpack for the student(s) selected. The full backpacks are returned to the church or parish house by early August for delivery to Annapolis Elementary School prior to the first day of school.
Volunteers are needed to collect and deliver backpacks and to help at sign-up tables after Sunday services.
