Eucharist with Special Prayers for Healing
At St. Anne’s, we believe that healing is deeply rooted in the experience of God’s peace. The Holy Eucharist—also known as the Blessed Sacrament—is central to this experience, offering a Real and Present encounter with Christ. The Eucharist is not only a sacrament of thanksgiving but also a means of grace given for the healing of body, mind, and spirit. The Early Church understood the Eucharist to be a form of medicine for the soul.
““Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
— James 5:14”
In the Episcopal tradition, the sacrament of unction (anointing with oil) is a sacred sign of spiritual strength, healing, and renewal of the soul.
At the Mid-Week Healing Eucharist, held every Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. in the Holy Family Chapel at St. Anne’s, you are welcome to receive the sacramental rites of communion, and after the service, come to the rail to receive healing prayer with a prayer minister and anointing with oil (unction).
“O Lord, holy Father, giver of health and salvation: Send your Holy Spirit to sanctify this oil; that, as your holy apostles anointed many that were sick and healed them, so may those who in faith and repentance receive this holy unction be made whole; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” – BCP, Ministration to the Sick, pg. 455
